On 1st May 2009, I woke up early as usual on a Friday morning. As I lay in bed, I realised that it was Labour Day and was also the day that Sun Hapkido Academy Singapore would celebrate our Second Anniversary with a buffet lunch at La Mei Zi along Thomson Road. Sun Hapkido Academy Singapore was founded on 07 May 2007 by Master Daniel Sng.

I joined the Sun Hapkido Academy in November 2008 with my son, Alex, and 1st May 2009 was the first time we celebrated an anniversary with the members. It was also my first time at La Mei Zi. The meal was steamboat buffet lunch. Each table seated 4 people and there were 4 varieties of soup base per table. There were chicken, vegetable, tom yum and the restaurant’s own spicy soup base. I, being not a spicy person chose the chicken soup but Alex, being the daring one, chose the tom yum soup.

There were plentiful of food to choose from; staples like rice, noodle, vermicelli, even potatoes; all sorts of vegetables, meat and seafood. I particularly liked the crabs which tasted very succulent and sweet.

The celebration was not all about food but was also a time to get to know each other better. In the Dojang, we are all usually hard at getting fitter physically through the training and learning new techniques that leaves very little time for socialising. This buffet lunch was a great idea as we can leisurely munched at our food while sharing our life stories.

Time passed quickly as we were having so much fun and at 2pm, we wrapped up the gathering. The lunch was a great success. We have Mr. Lee Gao Ju to thank for organising such an eventful anniversary gathering.

This, of course, would not have been possible without Master Daniel’s dedication to the Academy.
Last but not least, thank you to all members for their support in making this anniversary such a fun and successful gathering.
